Donald Trump’s message to the embassy and # 39; s Opening ceremony in Jerusalem – BBC News
President Trump did not go to Jerusalem for the inauguration ceremony, but a video message of his was seen on a large screen there.
“Exactly 70 years ago, the United States became the first nation to recognize the state of Israel as Harry Truman’s chief executive,” he said. “Today we opened the US embassy in Jerusalem. It’s been a long time.”
He added: “Today Israel is the seat of the government of Jerusalem, and is the Israeli legislature and supreme court and its prime minister and president.
“Israel is a sovereign nation with the right to determine its own capital. But for many years we did not recognize the obvious.”
Trump said the relocation was completed “many years ago,” and that the United States “would always be a great friend to Israel and the cause of freedom and the cause of peace.”
The ceremony in Jerusalem began with U.S. Ambassador to Israel David Friedman to officially declare the new embassy open.
“Today, we opened the U.S. embassy in Jerusalem, Israel,” he said. “Once again, the United States is making its way as the first nation.”
Trump gave the embassy’s life “courage and moral clarity,” adding: “A tremendous and eternal debt of gratitude.”
