COVID lung x-rays in San Diego patients show “significant” effects of the vaccine
X-rays of COVID-19-positive lungs released in San Diego (KGTV)-ABC 10 News show the effects of the vaccine.
COVID cases are skyrocketing across the county at local hospitals, including the University of California, San Diego. Dr. Albert Hsiao, a radiologist at the University of California, San Diego, has been interpreting X-rays in COVID patients since the pandemic began.
He sent us two images of ABC10News. The first image is the lungs of a vaccinated COVID patient. Another image shows the lungs of an unvaccinated patient.
“The difference between the two images is really dramatic,” said Dr. Xiao.
In the first image, there are many black spaces in the lungs of the vaccinated person. This means that it is filled with air. The lungs of unvaccinated people are much cloudier. This means that the infection has been taken over.
“The cloudy white areas you see, the areas of the lungs filled with fluids and immune cells, or the virus itself,” said Dr. Xiao.
In contrast, Dr. Xiao says clearer x-rays indicate that the vaccine is working. Recognize the virus as a foreign intruder and fight it.

Another set of images sent to ABC 10News is from the lungs of the same patient. The infected area is identified and colored by the AI algorithm. In these images, the lungs of an unvaccinated person are filled with color.
The patient remains hospitalized. Vaccinated patients were sent home.
“These x-rays show how remarkable and effective the vaccine is in protecting us from this virus,” said Dr. Xiao.
It is unclear whether the virus in either patient has been sequenced, but both may be cases of delta mutants. Nationally, this variant now accounts for more than 90% of new cases.
