Sixty hospitals have participated in a Canadian trial and 800 patients should be given convalescent plasma or plasma recovered with COVID-19. The first patient in the CONCOR-1 trial was infused in mid-May.
The idea is to determine if plasma from the recovered person can be given to someone in the early days of the COVID-19 virus. Theoretically, the immune system of a sick person may be strengthened, reducing hospitalization and ICU cases.
Health Canada has not yet approved convalescent plasma as a COVID-19 treatment.
