COVID-19 infections continue decline in Jackson County, just 4 new cases diagnosed in a week
JACKSON COUNTY, MI – There have been only four new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Jackson County since a week ago, as the state slowly eases stay-at-home restrictions.
As of Wednesday, June 10, Jackson County has 462 confirmed cases of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, which is a four-person increases from a week ago, according to Jackson County Health Department data.
Additionally, there have been no new deaths associated with the disease, keeping the county’s death toll at 28 residents.
Risk of the virus spreading in Jackson County is listed as medium, with 2.5 percent of those tested getting positive results, according to a COVID-19 interactive database created by health professionals at the University of Michigan.
Seeing a steady decline of confirmed cases hospitalizations, Henry Ford Allegiance Health shut down its coronavirus command center on June 8, and is relocating its drive-thru testing center to the Henry Ford Allegiance Specialty Center parking lot, 110 N. Elm Avenue, effective Thursday, June 11.

Similarly, state prisons located in Jackson County have seen little growth of the virus after large-scale testing of prisoners was conducted by the Michigan Department of Corrections with help from the National Guard.
COVID-19 data for prisoners is not included in Jackson County Health Department numbers.
Eleven new cases of the virus have been confirmed at the G. Robert Cotton Correctional Facility, increasing its cases to 702. No new deaths have been reported, keeping the total at four, MDOC said.
No additional employees at the Cotton facility have tested positive for the virus, keeping its total to 41.
No additional prisoners have died and 13 have tested positive for COVID-19 at the Charles E. Egeler Reception and Guidance Center, bringing its coronavirus totals to six deaths and 294 confirmed cases, MDOC said.
No additional employees of the reception center have tested positive beyond the 36 cases already reported.
There have been no new cases reported at the Duane Waters Health Center, keeping the total to 70, with no new deaths and no new staff members testing positive.
Statewide, officials reported 59,107 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and a death toll of 5,698 Tuesday, June 9.

In addition to washing hands regularly and not touching your face, officials recommend practicing social distancing, assuming anyone may be carrying the virus.
Health officials say you should be staying at least 6 feet away from others and working from home, if possible.
Use disinfecting wipes or disinfecting spray cleaners on frequently-touched surfaces in your home (door handles, faucets, countertops) and carry hand sanitizer with you when you go into places like stores.
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has also issued an executive order requiring people to wear face coverings over their mouth and nose while inside enclosed, public spaces.
