According to the Allegheny County Health Department, mosquitoes recently collected in three communities tested positive for West Nile virus. Collected on July 6 in the Point Breeze and Northside and Wilkinsburgh areas of Pittsburgh. This year, cases of West Nile virus have been reported in the county. According to the Allegheny County Health Department, mosquitoes recently collected in three communities tested positive for West Nile virus.
Mosquitoes were collected on July 6 in Point Breeze and Northside districts of Pittsburgh and the autonomous region of Wilkinsburg, health officials said Wednesday.
No human cases of West Nile virus have been reported in the county this year.
The Department of Health encourages residents to protect themselves from mosquitoes in the following ways:
- Get rid of the water standing in the garden
- Make sure there is a screen on the open window or door
- Use insect repellent on exposed skin, especially at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active
