New study links omega-3 intake in middle age to lower dementia risk

New study links omega-3 intake in middle age to lower dementia risk

A new US study led by researchers at the University of Texas Health Science Center linked omega-3 intake in middle age to better brain structure and a lower risk of dementia.

A study published in Journal of Neurologyanalyzed more than 2,000 people with a mean age of 46 without dementia or stroke.

Blood samples were taken from volunteers to measure levels of omega-3 fatty acid concentrations, and brain scans were performed to measure the volume of the hippocampus, a region of the brain that plays an important role in memory and thinking.

Researchers found that people with higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids scored better on cognitive tests, and those with a higher omega-3 index also had a larger hippocampus.

“Studies have explored this association in the elderly population. A new contribution here is that even at a young age, if a diet containing omega-3 fatty acids is present, it can be seen in middle age. “It’s already protecting the brain from most indicators of brain aging,” said Claudia, assistant professor of population health sciences at the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Diseases at UT Health San Antonio, who was involved in the study. Satizabal, lead author of , said:

The effect of omega-3 red blood cell levels in volunteers with APOE4 (a genetic variant associated with an increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease) was also studied by researchers and found that APOE4 carriers with a high omega-3 index had a smaller vascular disease. .

Commenting on the results of the study, Dr Sara Imarisio, Principal Investigator, Alzheimer’s Research UK, said: It was often seen in people with superior brain structure. Of course, this does not prove that high omega-3s are the reason for the difference in scans.

“Research on omega-3s and brain health has produced mixed results. While this study adds to the evidence base, it is exploratory and inconclusive. Because we looked at it, the study wasn’t full-text – whether people develop dementia-like conditions.”

Almost all insurance providers, no matter if they are well-known brands or just local insurers, have an online presence. Drivers are no longer required to get quotes from just a few known insurance companies. Also, local and regional insurers can provide lower insurance rates for the same services. Accurate insurance estimates. Online quotes can only be accurate if the customers provide accurate and real info about their car models and driving history. Lying about past driving incidents can make the price estimates to be lower, but when dealing with an insurance company lying to them is useless.
