Northeast Ohio schools fear flu epidemic after first childhood flu death
School districts in northeastern Ohio are worried about the spread of flu infections after Cuyahoga County reported the first childhood flu death of the year.
A 13-year-old boy died of the disease in late October or early November, according to the county health board.

“There have been some flu-related absences,” Rogen said. “We also have RSV. [respiratory syncytial virus] Streptococcus and even COVID. So, you know, everything is happening. ”

“We wore masks for two and a half years. We wore masks over and over again,” Rogen said. “Now our children are more and more exposed to these viruses and bacteria. They build antibodies to it, which is why they get sick.”
Before the pandemic, it was not uncommon for nearly 200 children to die from the flu each year. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) figures show. Only one child in the nation died from the disease during the 2020-2021 season.
