Decline in coronavirus cases in England remains flat-but no sign of increase

Official figures show that the steady decline in new cases of coronavirus in Britain has leveled off.

The National Bureau of Statistics said the number of people who tested positive for Covid-19 in the past few months had ended.

This number is included in the ONS infection surveillance pilot. ONS uses extensive testing to estimate the spread of the virus in the UK since late April.

This does not include Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. Also, cases at hospitals, nursing homes, and other “facility” are not covered.

It estimated that between 18,500 and 39,900 people were infected with the virus in the week to July 19, resulting in about 2,800 new cases per day. This is up from 15,000 to 34,000 last week, with about 1,700 new cases per day.

However, ONS didn’t go as far as saying that the number of new cases was actually increasing.

According to the authorities, there is no direct comparison between the weekly breaks and the next breaks, and there is no statistically significant increase at this stage.

The Prime Minister’s remark came a few days later, claiming that the country could return to “normal” by Christmas.
