Taxi and ambulance drivers showed reduced Alzheimer's disease mortality

After adjusting for age at death and other sociodemographic factors, taxi and ambulance drivers had the lowest mortality rate from Alzheimer's disease of all occupations studied (1.03% and 0.91%, respectively), compared with the general population. (1.69%).
The researchers found that this trend was not seen in other transportation-related jobs, such as bus drivers or airplane pilots (perhaps because they rely on pre-determined routes), or in other forms of dementia. The study focused on the fact that taxi drivers may be suffering from neurological changes such as in the hippocampus. And ambulance drivers may be helping reduce the risk of Alzheimer's disease.
Because this is an observational study, no clear conclusions can be drawn about cause and effect. The authors then found that people at higher risk of developing Alzheimer's disease may be less likely to enter or remain in memory-intensive driving jobs, such as taxi or ambulance driving, due to a variety of factors.
