Norovulius, other viral infections are straining Chicago area health care systems

“We want people to come to the emergency room when their health may be at risk,” said Dr. Rob Citronberg, executive medical director of infectious disease and infection prevention at Advocate Healthcare. “Doctors are seeing additional patients when possible, doing phone triage and determining whether patients come to the office or the emergency room depending on their needs,” said Dr. Damian Olejalski, a primary care physician. Based on past experience, doctors said they expect norovirus to peak and disappear soon.
But influenza, coronavirus and other respiratory illnesses could continue into April.
