Increased mortality rates and serious health issues among people hospitalized in Covid, studies reveal

New international studies highlight the increased risk of being hospitalized facially, and health effects often last several years after infection.

A study from the University of Parisite in France, published in the medical journal Infectious Diseases, studied over 380,000 people.

The team has discovered severe differences between those hospitalized and those not due to Covid-19, following each person's health status over the next 30 months.

These percentages declined over time, but they still rose by about 7% when researchers checked their health records two and a half years later.

“These findings are a reminder of the widespread impact of Covid-19, which is well beyond the initial infection,” Sarah Tubiana said.

“While there is a lot of attention being paid to the immediate risk of the virus, our study shows that hospitalized Covid-19 survivors are at a higher risk of serious health complications for months and even years later.”

Community patients were 2.5 times more likely to be readmitted six months after their first admission compared to the general population.

The study was conducted in 2020 with early Covid strains, and researchers say there are still questions about the later developed strains, such as Delta and Omicron.

The first case of Covid-19 in Australia was reported on January 25, 2020. Since then, more than 11.8 million cases have been reported, with over 25,000 Covid-related deaths.

Over 270,000 people in Australia were hospitalized with Covid from 2019-20 to 22nd 2021.

Stephen Kent, an infectious disease expert at the University of Melbourne, said the new study coincides with studies that reveal the long-term effects of Covid.

He said the severity of the health impacts from Covid has been alleviated in recent years by changes in vaccinations and tensions.
