The researchers found that 6.0% of the 3,248 participants had a positive test for the SARS-CoV-2 antibody. Serum prevalence across hospitals varied between 0.8 and 31.2 percent (median, 3.6 percent). Of the 194 seropositive participants, 29%, 44%, and 69% reported asymptomatic symptoms since February 1, 2020, presuming each was previously COVID-19. There wasn’t. Those who reported to always cover their face while caring for patients had lower serum prevalence than those who did not (5.6 vs 9.0%).
“These findings underscore the importance of maintaining PPE supply in hospitals caring for COVID-19 patients and, given adequate supply, use masks for all interactions between HCPs and patients. We adhere to the policy of encouragement,” the authors write.
