Coronavirus catastrophe declared in North Yorkshire

Following a “surge” in coronavirus cases over the past two weeks, North Yorkshire officials have declared a serious incident.
The North Yorkshire Local Resilience Forum (NYLRF) said it would restore “full emergency mode.”
The body, which consists of police and local government representatives, said Harrogate and Selby were of particular concern.
Case numbers are also skyrocketing in parts of Craven and Scarborough.
The county’s director of public health, Dr. Lincoln Sargent, said there were one or two new cases per day at the end of July.

He said the meeting currently has about 20 new cases per day.
“We are escalating concerns nationwide, directing local test facilities to the community and those in need,” he said.
Richard Flint, Chairman of NYLRF, said:
“But we are now seeing a worrisome increase in cases in many areas as the virus spreads to the community.”
“We know how rapidly infection rates change and we want the entire county to take immediate action to address this,” he added.
NYLRF said it was “strengthening support” for care homes, which was told to reintroduce visitor restrictions.
Other measures include being advised to wear a face mask whenever leaving home and dedicated police patrols targeting people who violate the rules of social distance.
The big incident was first declared at the beginning of the pandemic, but was subsequently lifted.
