Expect new variant COVID-19 strains to “spread” in King County

King County seems to be heading in the right direction, even if health officials are worried about the effects of the new strain. As of January 9, cases of coronavirus in the county have begun to decline again after increasing for about two weeks after the Christmas holidays. In the last seven days, the county has reported about 360 new cases per day.
Hospitalization and death are also decreasing.
However, according to Duchin, the number of people who have been tested for viruses has decreased since the holidays. He emphasized the importance of being tested if people have symptoms or if they are in close contact with a sick person.

Vaccines continue to be distributed within the county, albeit at a slower pace than state targets, as public health officials continue to call on people to double their precautions. About 80% of nurses and doctor assistants, and 74% of doctors, are vaccinated at least once. At least one dose is given to more than 60% of EMT technicians, emergency physicians and dentists. However, less than 40% of licensed medical assistants are vaccinated.
“Our main challenge is not enough vaccines, which continue to be a major obstacle to the faster deployment of vaccination to more people,” Dutin said. “We don’t know what to expect each week and we can’t predict future allocations.”
According to Duchin, the pace of distribution has been accelerating in King County recently. However, the speed of deployment can continue to depend on the supply the state receives.
The county is working to launch a mass vaccination clinic and has a mobile vaccination team to distribute vaccines as quickly and fairly as possible.
