With only six days left until the opening ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, the organizing committee held a cultural event entitled “Rediscover Tohoku – MOCCO’s Journey from Tohoku to Tokyo” in a park in Tokyo.

This massive animated show is the centerpiece of the Tokyo 2020 Nippon Festival, the official cultural program for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and held under the theme “Rebuild Tohoku”.

MOCCO debuted on May 15 in Iwate Prefecture and then toured through three prefectures in the Tohoku region before reaching Tokyo, the trip’s final destination.

MOCCO is the brainchild of children from the earthquake and tsunami that devastated the Tohoku region, the area most affected by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.
