The United Nations urged the UK to take action to curb racist hate speech, including by politicians, in a report published on Friday. The UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination has said it is particularly concerned about the persistence and in some cases the “significant increase” of hate crime and hate speech in the UK. Concerns included racist hate speech spread by mainstream media, social media and politicians and public figures. The UN has said it is “particularly concerned” by the actions and violence of “far-right and white supremacist” groups.
