Weymouth is a summer seaside resort.

Despite seasonal trading, shops here still open in the fall and winter to catch Christmas shoppers or dog walkers on the beach.

But today is different. Many shops and stores were closed along the coast due to strong winds and heavy rain expected.

The amusement arcade is open and Jayne's Cafe is also open.

Inside, owner Jayne Smith served us two gingerbread biscuits while we chatted about the weather.

“I will be open no matter what,” she says.

“The weather is not on our side at the moment, but if we do what we can and keep the doors open, people will come in. Even if it’s just for coffee or tea, it all helps the business.”

She has run the promenade café for three years and has been partly influenced by the changing seasons.

“Last year it got quieter and quieter, sometimes because of the weather and sometimes because people weren’t getting as much money as they used to.

“But for me, it’s the first cafe people see on their way to the train station, so it’s also their first port of call for coffee.”

What about severe weather during the day through Sunday?

“I’m leaving it open and same goes for tomorrow.”
