First Utahn ly receiving COVID-19 plasma treatment returns from hospital
SALT LAKE CITY – 24-year-old Cynthia Remus is a flight attendant from Salt Lake City. She is young and healthy but was on COVID-19 plasma treatment. The virus put her in a coma and put him in a life support device.
But Remus’s story is a happy ending. She is now recovering at home after waking up, leaving the hospital, and becoming the first Utahn to receive an COVID-19 plasma transfusion from another COVID-19 patient.
Remus is tired. But she is optimistic about full recovery.
“I hope I can get back to myself completely within a month or two. My body really shows that I am a fighter,” Remus said.

She attended a virtual press conference on Friday with an Intermount Healthcare doctor to discuss innovative plasma therapies that hope Utahn, who was critically ill at COVID-19, is hopeful for recovery.
The Food and Drug Administration is investigating whether the plasma of recovered COVID-19 patients helps recovery of other patients infected with the virus. Intermountain Health Care and the Red Cross are participating in the FDA program.

The science behind the COVID-19 plasma treatment
Dr. Brandon Webb, chair of the COVID-19 treatment team at Intermountain Healthcare, explained the science behind it.
