EuroHockey Freestyle commits to International Hockey Day
The first EuroHockey Freestyle kicked off in spectacular fashion last week with more than 5,500 fans marveling at the skills of the three finalists at Amsterdam's Wagener Stadium.
Its success means the competition is set to become a major part of major EuroHockey events, encouraging players to showcase their innovation and creativity and engaging potential hockey fans in a new way.
EuroHockey President Marcos Hofmann is delighted to see this new way of promoting the sport taking shape: “There is no player in the world who has not juggled the stick and the ball! Task? Produce your best party tricks in 30 seconds; your best stick handling; fancy footwork! The stage is there for everyone to show off. Take this to the big stage and inspire more people to take on the challenge.
This is an initiative that fits perfectly with the FIH International Hockey Day #Hockey100Pledge celebrations.
This campaign encourages hockey organizations around the world to create new projects to attract at least 100 new young players to the sport and increase their fan base on social media until the start of the next Olympic Games.
In Amsterdam – organized by Julie Aubert, EuroHockey coordinator – three qualifying sessions for the EHL FINAL8 saw Mathilda (10 years old; Club Raffelberg, Germany), Neil (13 years old; Pinok, Netherlands) and Evy- Lynn (12; HC Rotterdam, Netherlands) rises to the occasion for the chance to show off their sensational dribbling, aerial skills and ball juggling at halftime of the EHL Men's GRAND FINAL.
The stadium's full house was part of the jury, alongside expert guests from Junior FC Teresa Lima (Junior Player of the World Cup tournament) and Maria Gest (Spain international).
Their skills were also shown to more than 200,000 viewers on Dutch TV channel NOS before the start of the second half of the men's GRAND FINAL.
In the end, the winner was the talented and smiling Evy-Lynn who won, thanks to EuroHockey Osaka's partner, a personalized stick from their range from A to Z on the brand's website.
