NMSU Aggie Fashion Club Hosts 2024 Sustainable Fashion Show

Students from New Mexico State University's Aggie Fashion Club are ready to enter the show and once again show off their unique fashion skills at their annual sustainable fashion show.
The event is scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 18 at the Aggie Lounge in the Corbett Center Student Union.
This year, the upcycled and recycled creations are inspired by literature, with the theme “Book it to the Runway!” » One of the main goals of the fashion show is to continue to have a positive impact on the environment and create more sustainability.

“The fashion industry has a history of neglecting the environment with the increase in fast fashion, which creates large amounts of waste that ends up in landfills,” said Maxine Lucero, merchandising program assistant and of fashion design in the Family and Consumer Sciences department. “This is a big concern for our students. They found creative ways to recycle materials and clothing to create new and innovative designs.
Some of the designs featured are made from chip bags, curtains, recycled dresses, recycled jeans, pillowcases, playing cards, trash bags, electrical cables, sketchbook paper, thread , etc.
“There will be approximately 40 NMSU students involved in the fashion show. More than 20 of those students submitted a design and about 20 students will model it,” Lucero said.

The event will also feature live music, a photo booth, free flowers and senior awards. It's free to the public with a limited number of places.
