Excited Xi Jinping cut off and placed under house arrest! Oh good?
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Cyberspace is currently filled with speculation about Chinese President Xi Jinping’s house arrest. According to several social media posts, Xi Jinping has been removed from his post as leader of China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and placed under house arrest.
Neither the ruling Chinese Communist Party nor state media has provided official confirmation.
Xi Jinping recently attended the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Uzbekistan, where he held talks with several other heads of state. He also came face to face with Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the first time since border clashes in 2020 strained relations between India and China.
Several Twitter users today posted about Xi’s alleged house arrest. Some even claim that this is a military coup and that PLA vehicles have already started heading towards the capital Beijing.

On Twitter, there were also unverified reports that no commercial flights were flying over Beijing today.
Some Chinese experts say there have been no signs of a coup beyond comments on social media.
China expert Aadil Brar said Xi Jinping could be quarantined after returning from Uzbekistan, which would explain his absence from public affairs.
Speculation over Xi Jinping’s house arrest arose after China executed two former ministers earlier this week. Two ministers and four other officials, who were sentenced to life, were allegedly part of a “political faction”.
The series of high-profile condemnations is part of China’s anti-corruption campaign ahead of a political meeting next month in which President Xi Jinping is expected to secure an unprecedented third term.
