Prime Minister Modi to receive highest honors from Guyana and Barbados, bringing total international honors to 19
Guyana and Barbados will bestow their highest awards on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Guyana will bestow its highest national honour, the Order of Excellence, on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Barbados will award the prestigious Honorary Order of Freedom of Barbados.
Dominica had also announced its highest award for PM Modi a few days ago. The number of international awards bestowed on Prime Minister Modi has reached 19.
During a press briefing preceding the Prime Minister's visit to Guyana, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the Prime Minister's visit comes at the invitation of Guyanese President Mohammad Irfaan Ali.
Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (East), Jaideep Mazumdar said, “Recently, there has been an increase in high-level contacts between India and Guyana. President Irfaan Ali himself was the chief guest at Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in January.
Elaborating on the visit to Guyana, Mazumdar said the Prime Minister would engage in delegation-level talks with President Irfaan Ali.
The MEA official further said that Guyana was the fastest growing economy in the world and asserted that India would have the opportunity to partner with them in various areas in the future. “It is the fastest growing economy in the world and we will have opportunities to partner with them in various areas,” Mazumdar said.
“My visit to Guyana, at the invitation of President Mohamed Irfaan Ali, will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in over 50 years. We will exchange views on how to give strategic direction to our unique relationship , which is based on common principles, heritage, culture and values. I will also pay my respects to one of the oldest Indian diasporas, who migrated more than 185 years ago, and engage in another democracy, then. that I will address their Parliament,” the Prime Minister had previously noted.
