Imran Khan sent to judicial custody in six new cases

The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Monday sent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan to 14-day judicial remand in connection with the New Town Police Station case.

Imran Khan, currently lodged in Adiala jail, was arrested by the police after getting bail in the Toshakhana 2.0 case.

ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah presided over the hearing, during which the court approved Khan's remand in the New Town police station case, as well as six other cases.

The court rejected the remand application in six other cases dating from September 28 and October 5 and ordered that Imran Khan be sent to jail on remand. After the remand was approved, Imran Khan was taken into the custody of the prison police.

Imran Khan's Cell 4 had been designated as New Town Police Station. After being remanded in custody, his cell will now be part of Adiala prison.

Earlier, Imran Khan was arrested in six cases related to the September 28, October 4 and 5 protests. However, no arrests have been made in the 28 cases linked to the November 24 protest.

Seven complaints were registered against the founding president of the PTI for the demonstrations of September 28, October 4 and 5.

May 9 and November 24, cases will be heard today

ATC judge Amjad Ali Shah will conduct the hearing of the case on May 9 at the Katchehri courts from 9 am to 11 am. Later, he was scheduled to go to Adiala jail for the hearing of the case against PTI founder Imran Khan at the end of his seven-day remand.

PTI lawyers filed applications in the court to appear in Adiala jail. Police and investigation teams are planning to seek further remand of Imran for seven days without producing him in court inside the jail, police sources said.

PTI lawyers Faisal Chaudhry, Salman Safdar, Faisal Malik and lawyer Gohar will appear before the Adiala jail court. Imran's sister Aleema Khan may also come to jail as Imran has not met his lawyers or family for 10 days.

The judge will hear all 13 cases related to the May 9 tragedy on the court grounds at 9 a.m. For the hearing, all 440 accused, including Ali Amin Gandapur, Omar Ayub, Shibli Faraz, Shireen Mazari, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed have been summoned.

The 1,494 PTI workers arrested during the November 24 protest march could also be produced before the special anti-terrorism court by the police stations concerned after their four-day remand in custody.
