Half of the Americans approve Trump on immigration, but the support is lower on trade, says the AP-Noc survey

Immigration of Washington (AP) remains a force for President Donald Trump, but his management of rates obtains more negative comments, according to a survey by the Associated Press-Noc Center for Public Affairs Research.

About half of American adults approve Trump's approach to immigration, according to the survey, but only about 4 out of 10 have a positive vision of the way in which the economy and trade negotiations.

The survey indicates that many Americans are still on board Trump's efforts to increase deportations and restrict immigration. But that also suggests that the threats of the Republican president to impose prices which have been accompanied by the confidence of consumers and wild stock oscillations could erase his advantage over another problem that he made central to his winning campaign in 2024.

The economy was an obstacle to the president of the time, Joe Biden, who saw the part of the Americans who approved his manipulation of the economy falling at a level of around 3 out of 10 in 2023. Trump attracted a considerable force in November voters who favored the economy, but just before he did in January, an AP-Noc survey revealed that few Americans had great confidence that he had a great confidence in the first year.

The opinions of performance at the work of Trump as a whole are more negative than positive, according to the survey. About 4 out of 10 American adults approve how Trump manages his work as president and more than half disapprove. Negative opinions are also stronger than positive opinions out of 4 out of 10 American adults strongly disapprove of Trump's work, while around 2 out of 10 approves.

Trump's employment approval is the highest immigration

More American adults say they approve the management of immigration by Trump than his approach to the presidency as a whole.

This trend even extends to Democrats. Relatively little, about 2 out of 10, say that they are on board the way Trump approaches immigration, but it is higher than the approximately 1 out of 10 which approves his management of the economy and his work as a whole.

The sustainability of Trump's call on immigration stresses that many American adults support his difficult approach, which he prioritized during the first months of his second term.

In the past few weeks, Trump's administration has been locked in a judicial struggle for the expulsion of Venezuelan immigrants in Salvador under a law in wartime in the 18th century, made measures to deport foreign students who participated in pro-Palestinian demonstrations in colleges and tried to suspend the country's refugee admission system.

Voters who declared that immigration was their most important question last November last November favored more restrictive policies, according to the vote, a radical study of more than 120,000 voters. The problem was also a higher priority for Americans in 2025 than the previous year.

Signs of potential weakness on trade and the economy

There are also warning signs for Trump in the survey, in particular in the evaluation by the Americans of his work on prices and the economy.

Trade negotiations with other countries are the question on which it has been particularly negatively assessed, with around 6 out of 10 American adults saying that they disapprove of its professional performance. This is a relative weak point, even among the Republicans. About 7 out of 10 Republicans approve trade management by Trump still relatively high, but less than around 9 out of 10 which approve of its approach to immigration.

Trump's approach on other questions, including federal government management, its management of foreign conflicts, social security and the economy are roughly its global employment approval.

But even if the economy does not stand out as clearly as commercial negotiations, the relatively low note of Trump on this issue could be a problem for him in the future.

During his first mandate, the economy was a problem on which the Americans often gave Trump good grades. In October 2020, just before losing the re-election, an AP-Noc survey revealed that around half of American adults approved the management of the economy by Trump, putting the rating above its performance on racial relations and the COVVI-19 pandemic.

Prices and economic growth have also been a major motivation factor for voters who sent Trump to the White House for a second term. Trump won most of the voters who declared that the economy was the most important issue against the country, noted the vote on voting, and that it was also the choice of most of the voters who said that inflation was the most important issue for their vote.

Now, the stewardship of the economy by Trump is given to the test and the AP-Noc survey is not the only sign that its prices threats make the Americans on a daily basis. Consumer confidence has dropped in recent months. Trump argued that prices would provide more jobs in the automotive industry in the United States and restrict the budget deficit, but prices for imported cars could also increase if some tax costs are transmitted to consumers.

The AP-Noc survey with 1,229 adults was carried out from March 20 to 24, using a sample from the amerisheak panel based on the probability of NORC, which is designed to be representative of the American population. The sampling margin for adults as a whole is more or less 3.9 percentage points.
