Sale, Warian Pace Gophers on Day One of Isleworth Collegiate

MINNEAPOLIS — The University of Minnesota men’s golf team opened the Isleworth Collegiate at Isleworth Golf & Country Club on Sunday. After 18 holes at the major college golf championship, the Gophers are currently tied for the 11th time Antoine Sale and Ben Warian his 22nd after shooting 1-over par.
Arizona State leads the field of fourteen after a first round of 11 under 277. Auburn is currently in second place on even par and LSU follows closely with three shots out. Individually, Arizona State Cameron Sisk and Preston Summerhays are tied at 5-under (67).
Both Sale and Warian started the day with a 1-over front nine with Sale birdied one. They each carded two birdies and two bogies for a tie back nine and 1-over 73 on the day.
Senior Lincoln Johnson jumped off to a strong start, with birdies on the first, sixth and seventh holes. He had back-to-back bogies on eight and nine to turn in a 1-under front nine. He found a bit of trouble in the back nine and went 2-over on the day, finishing 37th.
Harrison Arnold finished 6-over 78 and Bennett Swavely finished 9-over 81 to take 60th and 71st place respectively.
The Gophers tee off on the second round tomorrow, starting with Swavely at 7:25 a.m. CT from the 10th hole. Arnold, Johnson, Warian and Sale follow in 10-minute increments.
