Denver hockey wins national championship
The Pioneers captured an NCAA record and 10th national title on Saturday by defeating Boston College 2-0 in the championship game.
ST PAUL, Minnesota The Denver Pioneers now stand alone atop the NCAA hockey mountain.
DU shut out Boston College 2-0 in the national championship game at the Xcel Center on Saturday night, where he captured an NCAA record 10th.
Both Denver and Michigan were in the 2024 Frozen Four, with nine championships each. The Wolverines were eliminated in the semifinals by Boston College and did not reach the final game of the season.
DU now has the outright lead thanks to goals from Jared Wright and Rieger Lorenz in the second period of the title bid. Defensively, goaltender Matt Davis carried the load for the Pioneers, pitching a shutout with 35 saves in net to fend off the Eagles.
Head coach David Carle takes home his second trophy in just six years at the helm of the Pios after leading Denver to the 2022 national championship. The 34-year-old has led the Pioneers to four NCAA Tournament appearances, two Frozen Four berths and two championships.
Denver went 32-9-3 overall during its championship run, which included stringing together a nine-game winning streak en route to the national title.
