Six CUI tennis players make All-PacWest teams
IRVINE, Calif. On the eve of their first playoff matches, six tennis players from Concordia University Irvine were honored Wednesday for their outstanding seasons as members of the All-PacWest Conference teams.
Four CUI women and a pair of men earned the awards in April. The awards for the competition were announced at the annual banquet in Surprise, Arizona.
Sophomore Sophie Rachel and freshmen Emilie Lugon-Moulin were both named First Team All-Conference in singles. Their doubles partners were also recognized Tiffany Carrillo and Rachor made the second team in doubles and Lugon-Moulin and fellow freshmen Bryn Johnson were named together to the third team.
On the men's side, newcomer Mattis Le Montagner made the second team in singles. Mario Alexic joined him as a top singles player and was named Third Team All-PacWest.
Rachor went 15-4 and twice had five winning streaks at the No. 1 singles spot. She has remained nationally ranked in singles for most of the season and enters the top 40 among ITA NCAA DII players this week in Arizona.
Lugon-Moulin went 16-3 in singles, mostly at No. 2 after starting the year at No. 3. Additionally, 14 of her 16 regular season wins came in just two sets and she won seven consecutive matches. The freshman was named PacWest Player of the Week twice in April, including last Monday.
The duo of Rachor and Tiffany Carrillo was ranked No. 8 nationally in the ITA DII rankings and won nine times while playing at No. 1.
Lugon Moulin and Johnson went an astonishing 13-1 overall as a duo this regular season. They were 9-0 at No. 2 doubles and 4-1 at No. 3.
Le Montagner was impressive for the CUI men, going 15-5 in singles. This included a perfect 5-0 at No. 2 and 10-5 at No. 1. Additionally, 11 of his wins came in straight sets.
Aleksic was just as impressive. He posted a 13–4 regular season record in singles and combined to go 8–2 at the third spot while going 5–2 at the No. 2 position.
Both Concordia tennis teams will play in the quarterfinals on Thursday. The men will first play Point Loma at 9am PT, followed by the women's game against Biola at 1pm PT.
