Ford Mustang celebrates 60 years.Mandan Mustang collector looks back

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) – It's been 60 years since Ford Motor Company unveiled its newest sports car, the Mustang, at the New York World's Fair.

The Ford Mustang was introduced to the world on April 14, 1964, and 60 years later, the Mustang brand is still going strong.

Dan Craft of Mandan has been collecting Mustangs since he was in high school. He was just a kid when Mustangs debuted, but that didn't stop him from learning about them through collecting.

The Mustang went on sale to the general public on April 17, and on its first day of sale, 22,000 Mustangs were sold nationwide, something Kraft said he never expected.

Kraft, a Mustang collector, said it's amazing the car is still in production at Ford after all these years.

It means a lot, it's powerful, and it's been their nameplate for years, Kraft said.

Sixty years later, Ford still builds gas-powered Mustangs, but is also focused on building electric Mustangs in the future.

I did some research and found out that even though there is an electric Mach-E, it will continue to use a gas-burning motor, which makes me very happy. I know many other motors have done away with combustion motors and are completely electric, Kraft said.

Kraft said one of the most special things about the Mustang is that every time he drives one, he gets the same feeling: the power of the car.

I just like the feel and power. I prefer a manual, and my car also has an automatic, but I like the ability to shift gears and the driving experience of the Mustang, Kraft said.

Kraft doesn't know if the Mustang will last another 60 years, but he's hopeful.

I agree, we'll see what the future holds, but it's been the past 60 years and it's still working well for Ford, so I don't think they're going to stop doing it, Kraft said. Told.

But for now, Kraft plans to continue collecting as he celebrates this milestone anniversary of his favorite classic car.

To celebrate the Mustang's 60th anniversary, Ford is launching a special limited edition package that includes some of the original features of the 1964 model.
