5.1-magnitude earthquake hits China; I felt tremors in Beijing

On Sunday, a 5.1-magnitude earthquake struck Tangshan, a city in north China’s Hebei Province. Strong Xinhua tremors were felt in the vicinity, including Beijing, the Xinhua news agency reported. The China Earthquake Networks Center said the epicenter of the earthquake that struck the Jay region at 6:38 am local time, was monitored at 39.78 degrees north latitude and 118.44 degrees east longitude.

The committee said that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km.

A second earthquake with a magnitude of 2.2 struck the area again at 7:02 am. The report said there were no reports of casualties. Firefighters were sent to the area.
