San Jose Earthquakes sign defenseman Jamar Ricketts

The San Jose Earthquakes have signed defenseman Jamar Ricketts through the 2024 Major League Soccer season, with options through 2025-2027, the San Jose Earthquakes announced Wednesday.

Ricketts was previously selected No. 13 overall (first round) by San Jose in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft after starring at California State University, Northridge.

“We are excited to sign Jamar to the first team,” Earthquakes general manager Chris Leitch said in a statement. “We thought he was among the best left-backs in the draft when we selected him, and we have been delighted with his performance throughout pre-season.”

The 22-year-old finished his collegiate career with 16G/10A in 55 games with CSUN. He also appeared for USL League Two side Ventura County Fusion, helping them reach the national quarterfinals.

Ricketts is the club's second new left-back following the acquisition of Vitor Costa this season from Portuguese second division club CS Maritimo. They also have Paul-Marie in that position.

San Jose, entering its second season under coach Lucie Gonzalez, returns to action on February 24 at FC Dallas (8:30 p.m. ET | MLS Season Pass).
