A group of earthquakes rocked the Greek island of Santorini, one of the busiest tourist destinations in the country, raising concerns about the stability of dramatic and volcanic slopes in the region amid a decades -long construction boom.

Scientists warn that seismic activity can last for weeks and has not ruled out the possibility of a greater earthquake.

These concerns have raised the experts who have long questioned Santorini's rapid development from attractive villages to a loud tourist point.

The tremors prompted the government to declare a state of emergency on Thursday. Close schools, deployment of the army. Meanwhile, thousands of people were left on aircraft and phrases.

In 2021, a report issued by the Hellenic Society for the Environment and Cultural Heritage, commissioned by the Al -Jazeera authorities, said that there is an urgent need to study soil engineering to assess building safety in Caldira.
