Arguably Puerto Rican’s most famous son, Ricky Martin, provides voiceover throughout the film. Eduardo Capra (also known as Visitante), winner of three Grammy Awards and over 25 Latin Awards, composed the film’s score.

Her company, Wiesner Distribution, has been distributing films in the Caribbean and Central America for the past 20 years and handling global pic sales. “El Cuartito” is Wiesner’s debut production.

Carnival has directed a large number of successful comedies in Latin America, led by “Lionheart” (“Corazon de Leon”), which have been reproduced in at least nine territories; “Elsa & Fred”, is re-released in the US with Shirley MacLean and Christopher Plummer; And “Inseparables”, adapted from the popular French drama The Intouchables.

Predominantly in Spanish, “El Cuartito” is a departure from the regular Particular Crowd lineup, as it initially focused on producing and acquiring mainly English-language films in the most mainstream genres: comedies, romantic comedies, horror, thriller, teenager and family.

When it was launched about a year ago by Turner Latin America, one of the largest pay-TV operators in the region, Particular Crowd announced a list of 90 English-language films. The acquisition of “El Cuartito” confirms her plan to further expand the content in both Spanish and Portuguese, and ultimately her confidence in the appeal of international drama.
