Health alert issued in Texas as bacterial infection cases rise

The Surfriders Foundation has released a list of America's most polluted beaches for 2023.

“While there is a possibility that Vibrio may be present in Galveston waters, there is no need to panic,” said Dr. Philip Kaiser, local health official and CEO of GCHD. “Use common sense: avoid raw seafood, practice good hygiene and stay informed to stay safe.”

Officials offered the following recommendations on how to prevent Vibrio illness:

• Avoid raw or undercooked seafood, especially from areas where Vibrio outbreaks have been reported.

• Cover any cuts or open wounds. If you have an open wound, avoid contact with seawater.
