When should the COVID-19 quarantine start and end?
Q: A member of my household gave a positive reaction COVID-19 (New Coronavirus Infection) (# If there is no character limit, add parentheses when first appearing.. Need to be quarantined? If so, how long?
A: The Tennessee Department of Health recently Guidelines about this. If you test positive for COVID-19, you need to isolate yourself for at least 10 days after the onset of symptoms, or longer if symptoms persist. At least 24 hours of symptomatic improvement and no fever (no fever-preventing medications) are required to end the isolation period. A seriously ill person may need to be quarantined for up to 20 days and should seek medical advice.
The same guidelines apply if positive but without symptoms. You must be quarantined for 10 days after you have been tested.
Now, guidelines for household contact have been clarified. If a household member is positive, the household member must be quarantined for 14 days from the last contact date. This is when a member of the household has completed 10 days of quarantine. This means you will be quarantined for at least 24 days. This should be quarantined for 14 days from the last day of exposure, as positive cases can be transmitted for all 10 days. This applies whether or not the case is symptomatic. If you experience any symptoms, consider isolating yourself and contacting your doctor or practitioner for a test.
No follow-up tests are required to terminate quarantine (for contacts) or quarantine (for active COVID-19).
