At the end of the pandemic, only 11% of Britain argue that the economy will “bounce right away”, 45% “will weaken for a few years” and 39% think “many people will be harmed”.
This is mainly because 19% of young workers were unemployed or forced to cut their salaries.
A similar percentage say they are worried about their future, and are more lonely and dissatisfied as the effects of restrictions on their mental health are beginning to grow.
Regarding the contract with the virus, only 20% believe that the virus is unlikely to be transmitted. COVID-19, 39% chance is 50:50.
39% of Britain believe that pandemics will kill millions of people worldwide and 26% believe that “millions” will die.
Coronavirus Count: UK Passes 11,000 Deaths
Chris Curtis, YouGov’s manager of political research, said the data showed that the majority of Britain are willing to comply with lockdown measures despite being aware of their economic impact.
“People are accepting more restrictions than previously envisioned,” he told the telegraph.
“The question is what will happen after 12-24 weeks. I think the surprising discovery is this willingness to accept.
“People will probably be willing to adhere to these guidelines, even if they become difficult in the long run and inevitably harm the economy.”
A staggering 92% of respondents said they agreed with the statement. “If you don’t agree or it doesn’t make sense, you’ll probably follow government advice.”
However, despite being ready to comply with the rules, 44% feel that the government should have taken a stricter stance and implemented more stringent blockades.
Curtis further added: “There’s one thing that looks like the government doesn’t have to worry about exit strategies: whether the people will comply with these measures in the long run.
“People in the UK and around the world reward governments for strong decisive action.”
