Denver (KDVR) — New research shows that face masks don’t just protect you from COVID-19.

Scientists collected data from 215 nurses using surgical masks or N95 masks during the two weeks.

Of the 91 nurses with moderate symptoms, wearing a surgical mask improved 30% and N95 improved 40%. A study found that of the 80 nurses with mild symptoms, about 54% showed improvement when wearing a surgical or N95 mask.

“I find it useful,” Hui said of the cloth mask. “Obviously pollen varies in size depending on what the allergen is. The N95 does block much of it to some extent compared to cloth masks that still have openings on the sides.”
The New York Times also reported that wearing a mask helped nurses with seasonal allergies more than nurses with symptoms all year round.
However, the mask did not help relieve itching in the eyes, the report found.
Hui recommends that allergic patients on the go wear eyeglasses and sunglasses to protect their eyes to block allergens.
Another COVID-like method that helps with allergies is to clean the surface of the house. It is also advisable to take a bath after your pet spends time outside.
“You’re out and exercising. When you come back, I’ll change clothes and take a shower,” Hui said. “You still have some of that pollen in your nasal passages and in your clothes. Taking a shower and changing it will definitely help.”
