Reading from the US-Israeli Strategic Advisory Group

Today, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan convened the US-Israeli Strategic Consultative Group (SCG) for consultations on a range of issues following the unprecedented Iranian missile and drone attack on Israel. The Israeli side was led by Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer and National Security Advisor Tzachi Hanegbi. The discussion began in a small group to discuss the Iranian attack and collective efforts to further strengthen Israel's defense through advanced capabilities as well as cooperation with a broad coalition of military partners. Mr. Sullivan also informed the Israeli side of new sanctions and other measures that began today, in coordination with Congress and G7 capitals, following the President's call with G7 leaders held this morning after the Iranian attack.

Both sides later expanded to include interagency delegations to discuss Rafah. Both sides agreed on the common goal of seeing Hamas defeated in Rafah. U.S. participants expressed concerns about various courses of action at Rafah, and Israeli participants agreed to take these concerns into account and continue follow-up expert discussions, overseen by the SCG. The participants will meet again soon.
