Actor Ian Gelder dies at 74
Gelder played Kevan Lannister, younger brother of patriarch Tywin Lannister, in the popular HBO series.
LONDON, UK Actor Ian Gelder, known for playing Kevan Lannister in the popular HBO series “Game of Thrones”, has died aged 74, five months after a cancer diagnosis.
Her husband, actor Ben Daniels, announced Gelder's death in a job on Instagram.
“It is with immense sadness and a heavy heart broken into a thousand pieces that I leave this position to announce the passing of my beloved husband and life partner, Ian Gelder,” he wrote.
He said Gelder was diagnosed with bile duct cancer in December and that, although Daniels had become his full-time caregiver, “none of us had any idea it would go so quickly.”
Daniels called Gelder an “absolute rock” throughout their 30-plus year relationship.
“He was a wonderful actor and everyone who worked with him was touched by his heart and his light. I honestly don't know what I will do without him by my side.”
Gelder's management team called him “a lovely person and wonderful actor” on social media.
“The world would be less without him” DPA management wrote.
Gelder was a veteran actor whose career includes stage and screen credits spanning several decades. He is perhaps best known for playing Kevan Lannister, Tywin Lannister's brother, in “Game of Thrones.” On stage, we notably find Antonio in “The Merchant of Venice” and Clarence in “Richard III” with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
He has also appeared in roles on television shows such as “Torchwood”, “Doctor Who”, “Fifteen-Love” and “His Dark Materials”. Gelder's most recent role was in an episode of the BBC crime series “Father Brown.”
