Siddiqui strikes deal between prison administrator and Imran, a mockery of the law

ISLAMABAD: Senator Irfan Siddiqui has termed the agreement between the Adiala Jail Superintendent and PTI founder Imran Khan under the directions of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) as amounting to an open parody of the law, regulations and the prison manual.

Such a written agreement between the prison administration and a convicted prisoner is unprecedented, he said in a statement on Sunday. Irfan Siddiqui said that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Asif Ali Zardari, Benazir Bhutto, Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and other dozens of prominent political leaders have been incarcerated, but there is no example of such a written agreement with any of them, even though no one has been convicted in such serious cases as Imran Khan.

He said the agreement stipulated that this was done in light of instructions from the IHC. Senator Siddiqui said that if on the directions of the High Court the convicted prisoner can have the right to determine the number, days and time of his visitors and appoint coordinators, then why cannot this right not be extended to around 5,000 prisoners in Adiala Prison and 90,000 prisoners in prisons across the country.
