Boris Johnson said he was unlikely to run for MP again in the short term, but also refused to rule out getting involved on the frontline policy Again.

The old Prime Minister spoke to an audience at Georgetown University's Center for European Policy Analysis in Washington.

Asked about a potential return, he said: I think it's unlikely in the short term. I think the only circumstances in which someone should run for office is if they have something to contribute.

Mr Johnson was MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip until he resigned last year.

At the time he said the move was for now, in response to investigations by the Privileges Committee – what Mr Johnson called a witch hunt. Nearly a year before, he resigned as prime minister amid controversy over his handling of the pandemic.

Much of this was down to Downing Street throwing Covid parties while its regulations prevented people from working, seeing family or saying goodbye to deceased loved ones.

Mr Johnson called a report into his handling of Covid a kangaroo court.

The 59-year-old also spoke to the audience about global politics.

He said it would be a disaster if Vladimir Poutine was able to capture Kyiv.

Mr. Johnson added that he prayed that Republicans would block $60 billion in funding for Ukraine would allow him to pass.

He said Putin's takeover of Ukraine would be a bigger setback than Vietnam's, because it would be NATO, after 75 years of success, failing for the first time in a European war.
