Flood in Chamarkan village damages communication system

PESHAWAR, April 14 (APP): Due to persistent torrential rains last Friday, while snowfall on the mountain peaks and Kalash village have seriously affected the communication system in the entire valley.

Speaking to APP, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Chitral Muhammad Imran Khan said that all appropriate measures have been taken to ensure safety of the general public. He said that due to heavy rains since last Friday, the flood affected different waterways and roads in several valleys were closed due to landslides and large rocks falling from the mountains.

The only land road connecting Chitral to other parts of the country is also closed for all types of traffic at Lowari Tunnel, while roads in Upper Chitral, Lutkoh and Kalash valleys have also been closed for safety of the general public.

He said the district administration and officials of concerned departments including TMAs and NHAs are working day and night to open roads and ensure communication systems. He said Chamarkan village was badly affected by the chowchow goal nullah as a link road, foot bridge, irrigation stream and water supply lines were also destroyed due to floods.

He said road connections would soon be restored in different areas and a guideline had already been issued for the general public to avoid unnecessary travel. DC Muhammad Imran Khan said that PDMA, TMA and NHA officials were working hard with heavy machinery to open the main and link roads.
