Jokowi meets former British Prime Minister Tony Blair at the Presidential Palace today
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair meets President Joko Widodo ou Jokowi at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, today, Thursday, April 18, 2024.
Dressed in a dark blue suit, Blair and his entourage arrived at the presidential palace complex around 9:53 a.m. local time. Blair provided no details of the meeting as he entered the palace.
The Palace also gave no information regarding Thursday morning's meeting between Jokowi and the member of the IKN Advisory Board.
Jokowi had previously asked Blair to help promote the Nusantara Capital or IKN internationally. Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan explained Blair's tasks after the IKN Advisory Council met with Jokowi at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday, October 19, 2022.
In his statement, Luhut explained that the meeting discussed the capital transfer plan. Luhut said Tony Blair also shared his thoughts on promotional strategies that the Indonesian government could implement. According to Tony Blair, the government could promote by offering investment opportunities to several other countries, such as the governments of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and China, as well as several foreign companies in the Asian region.
Indonesian companies should also invest in IKN, Luhut said. Over the past few months, Jokowi said letters of intent (LoI) from foreign investors for IKN had been piling up, but none had materialized. Jokowi claimed in November last year that the government was currently “prioritizing domestic investors.”
