President Jokowi Kartini Day is not just a ceremony
President Joko Widodo called on all people in the country to make Kartini Day a symbol of women's struggle. According to him, women also have the right to have the autonomy and strength to live their lives in society.
“Let's make Kartini Day not just a ceremony, but a symbol of women's struggle for leadership and the power they have,” Jokowi wrote via his personal Instagram, Sunday (21/4).
The Head of State said Kartini Day was a reminder of the long journey women have taken to achieve gender equality. He also did not forget to wish all Indonesian women a happy Kartini Day.
In his upload, Jokowi included a video of the process of making Kartini's illustration accompanied by the song Ibu Kita Kartini created by Wage Rudolf Supratman.
Kartini Day is celebrated every April 21. This refers to the Presidential Decree of the Republic of Indonesia Number 108 of 1964, issued by the first President of the Republic of Indonesia, Soekarno, which designated Kartini as a hero of national independence and also established the anniversary of Kartini on April 21 as a great day which later became known as Kartini Day.
