Imran Khan warns against protests against attempts to extend CJP Isa's term

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has warned of possible protests if the government ignores decisions on reserved seats and tries to extend the tenure of chief justices.

In an informal discussion with journalists at Adiala Jail, Khan expressed his dissatisfaction with the current political climate, comparing the situation in Pakistan to that of Bangladesh under Sheikh Hasina.

“Our living conditions are worse than those in Bangladesh,” Khan said.

Describing the living conditions, the PTI chief noted that Hasina Wajid had appointed her own army chief, chief justice and police chiefs while sidelining opposition parties. He drew parallels between these developments and Pakistan, saying: “These developments have happened and are happening in Pakistan as well.”

In a criticism of the government's handling of the May 9 incidents, Khan accused the authorities of orchestrating a crackdown on the PTI under false pretenses.

“The same people who stole the footage of May 9 are responsible for the events of that day. Half of our leaders have been imprisoned, while the rest have gone underground or been forced to leave the party,” Khan said.

The former prime minister warned that any attempt to extend the tenure of chief justices or ignore Supreme Court rulings would lead to widespread protests.

The former prime minister also condemned the alleged electoral fraud, saying that fear of the fraud being exposed prompted the government to place its own judges in the courts and violate the constitution by not holding elections in two provinces. This, he said, was a deliberate attempt to avoid the scrutiny that would come with reopening the constituencies.

He warned that the nation was on high alert and there was a risk of widespread unrest if these issues were not addressed.
