Trump says he told Netanyahu that he must be reasonable '' on all disputes with Türkiye
WASHINGTON
US President Donald Trump said on Monday that he had told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he “should be reasonable” on all the disputes he had with Türkiye because the American president also praised his relationship with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
“Any problem you have with Turkey, I think I can solve. I mean, as long as you are reasonable, you have to be reasonable. We must be reasonable,” Trump told journalists in the oval office when he hosted Netanyahu, using an older English word for Türkiye.
“Bibi, if you have a problem with Turkey, I really think you will be able to solve it. You know, I have a very, very good relationship with Turkey and their leader, and I think we will be able to solve. So, I hope it will not be a problem.
Trump said that he had “great relations” with Erdogan, that he described as “a hard to cook, and he is very intelligent, and he did something that no one could do”, referring to previous remarks in which he said that he believed “that it was Turkey” which orchestrated the fall last December of the former long-standing sovereign of Syria, Bashar al-Assad.
“I said, congratulations, you did what nobody could do in 2000 years. You took up Syria with different names, but the same thing. I said, you have taken it up. He took it back by substitutes,” said Trump about his previous conversations with Netanyahu.
Assad, the leader of Syria for almost 25 years, fled to Russia on December 8, ending the Baath party regime, which had been in power since 1963.
Ahmed Al-Sharaa, who directed the anti-regime forces in Assad, was declared president for a transition period on January 29.
