Aggies play their way into fourth place after opening day in Tucson
TUCSON, Ariz. The NM State men's golf team returned to action Monday at Tuscon Country Club, finishing 12 over par (588) and holding steady at fourth on the team leaderboard at the Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate. Eight of the fourteen programs, including NM State, made it to the end of their first two rounds, but six programs were still on the court when play was suspended due to lack of sunlight.
The Aggies were led by Alexander Bauduin who sent in a pair of 73s to kick off his tournament. Two over par through 36 holes, Bauduin is currently tied for sixteenth with Alejandro De Castro of Long Beach State, Charlie Jackson of Abilene Christian and Zach Little of Central Arkansas. On the opening day, Bauduin recorded six birdies, evenly spread over the two rounds.
In the meantime, Alvaro Morales is in the next group of players, as he is tied with twenty playerse place after finishing the day with a 36-hole score of 147 (+3). Morales' day consisted of two rounds, as he bounced back from an opening round of 76 to end his day with a 71 in the afternoon, rocketing up the leaderboard.
Just one strike also separated Morales from the next Aggie River Smalley posted a pair of 74s to enter Wednesday's final round at four over par and tied for 23rd on the individual rankings. In the meantime, Javier Delgadillo is tied for 36e despite carding a 71 in the opening round Anthony Lara is inserted in 48e shooting nine over par.
NM State returns to the road Tuesday morning and the five Aggies will begin their staggered start at 9:15 a.m. MT. All scores can be followed live via SmartGolf.com.
