Colonel Men's Tennis falls to NJIT in SLC tournament
SAN ANTONIO, Texas –The No. 7 Nicholls State University men's tennis team couldn't continue its hot streak as the Colonels were defeated 4-0 by No. 2 NJIT in the opening round of the Southland Conference Tournament at the McFarlin Tennis Center on Thursday night.
With the loss, Nicholls finished the season with a 12–7 overall record while ending its six-game win streak. It was also the first setback in three meetings against NJIT (17-5).
The Highlanders took a 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point. Antonio Sasso And Ammar Fekery previously fell 6-3 to number 2 Harry Collins And Kotaro Matsumura lost 6–4 at No. 3 to close the match.
In singles, NJIT won five of six sets to start Quentin Lamothe coming away with a 7-6 victory over No. 3 for the Colonels. Collins almost took a win in his first set, but came up short in the tiebreak.
Os Callo von Platen was the first Highlander to win in singles, beating No. 5 Sasso, 6-4, 6-1. Pablo Perez Ramos went down Omar Morsi at No. 1, 6-1, 6-4, before Pavel Petrov's 6-2, 6-2 victory over Danial Banov at No. 4 ended the match.
