Monday evening earthquake hit much of Clark County

A small earthquake shook parts of eastern Clark County on Monday evening, causing no damage, but prompting several calls to emergency dispatchers.

The US Geological Survey said the quake, with a magnitude of 2.8, was centered in an area west of Lake Lakamas. A map from the USGS showed the epicenter directly under Skyridge Middle School, east of the intersection of Northwest Parker Street and Northwest Leadbetter Drive.

The US Geological Survey reported the earthquake’s depth at 3.8 kilometers, or 2.36 miles below the surface.

The earthquake prompted a series of calls to emergency dispatchers, with callers thinking they felt an explosion, but fire crews unable to find anything and clear the call.

A shaking map from the USGS showed either weak quakes being felt in most parts of Clark County and in north and northeastern Portland. Most people who reported shaking described it as weak to light, with no damage reported.
