Irish Coronavirus: Over 1,000 new Covid-19 cases confirmed, 3 more dead
According to the latest figures, there were three new Covid-19-related deaths and more than 1,000 new confirmed cases of the virus.
The Health Protection Monitoring Center has identified 1,012 newly identified cases of Covid-19.
As of 2:00 pm today, 199 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 31 of whom are in the ICU.
Dr. Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer, said all new cases were notified during the 24 hours until midnight on Friday.
This is the highest number of cases in 24 hours since the pandemic began, exceeding the record high of 936 cases announced on April 23.
Dr. Holohan said the number of cases is increasing nationwide in all age groups.
“All the key indicators of this disease are getting worse. For example, the test positive rate has consistently increased over the past week. By midnight on Friday, October 9, the test positive rate was 6.2 pc. It has more than doubled in less than two weeks.
“The number of cases is increasing in all age groups and across the country.
“The 14-day incidence increased from 108 per 100,000 last Sunday to 150 per 100,000 today, which is a 39% increase.”
Deputy Chief Medical Officer Ronan Glynn said the hospital situation meant that contacts needed to be restricted to prevent the spread of the virus.
“In the last 24 hours, there have been 35 new hospital admissions and 4 new ICU admissions for cases confirmed in the laboratory. Currently, there are 199 hospitals and 31 ICUs. All age groups, locations and households need to act now, limit contacts and stop illness. ”
