New weather warnings for parts of England following the collapse of Storm Kathleen | uk news

New weather warnings, including a possible risk to life in some coastal areas, have been issued after Storm Kathleen brought chaos to parts of the UK and Ireland.

Planes had trouble landing at some airports Saturday as the storm, which brought winds of more than 70 mph, canceled flights and left tens of thousands of people without power.

Now the Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for Monday and Tuesday as a second low pressure system moves in.

This was named Storm Pierrick by the French Meteorological Agency. Northern France will be the worst affected, but winds of up to 60mph will be felt around Wales and the southern coast of England.

The Met Office warning includes:

• Yellow warning for winds to cover the north-west Highlands, in effect until midnight Sunday • Yellow warning for winds to cover south-west England, in effect from 6pm Monday to 6am Tuesday • Yellow warning for winds to cover large areas of England and Wales Yellow warning for rain in effect for south, central and eastern Scotland from 1am to 3pm on Tuesday for the south and west coasts

Gusty winds in southwest England are “unlikely to cause injury or risk to life” due to waves and debris, the Met Office said.

It also warned of possible power outages and travel disruptions.

Meanwhile, 226 flood warnings and warnings were issued across England, Scotland and Wales.

Flooding is expected to occur around Salisbury, south of Bournemouth, and in the Dumfries, Galloway and Orkney areas of the Western Isles.

A girl was rescued off the coast of Dun Laoghaire, County Dublin, Ireland on Saturday evening.
